Summary of Role

Celebration Church’s Correctional Ministry serves as a unique extension of Outreach; bringing not only the weekend experience, but the entire life and culture of Celebration inside the walls of Correctional Facilities all over the greater Austin area every weekend. The Correctional Facilities Coordinator works directly with Correction Facilities Pastor and Missions and Outreach Team to ensure all activities of the Correctional Facilities Ministry and events are being performed with excellence.

Position Status and Schedule

  • Full-time (40 hours)
  • Monday - Friday 9am-5pm
  • This schedule will need to be flexible around major Outreach Events.
  • Christmas & Easter service dates and times are black out days for time off. There may be other events that you are required to work outside of your normal schedule, you will be informed in advance of any of these requirements.

Primary Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ministry consists of church services in English and Spanish, for men and women, water baptisms, small group studies, special events such as Radiant Conferences, worship nights, Day with Mom, Day with Dad, Marriage Conferences. Currently the correctional ministry is serving in 11 facilities within a 1 1/2 hour driving radius of the church.
    • Current Correctional Facilities: T. Don Hutto Residential Center, Williamson County Jail; Williamson Country Juvenile Detention Center; Travis State Jail, Lockhart Correctional Facility, Halbert Unit, Marlin Unit, Hughes Unit, Woodman Unit, Federal Correctional Institution, Bastrop; Jack Harwell Detention Center; Travis County Correctional Complex
    • Offsite Correction Facility church service preparation consists of preparing weekly sermon handouts of Pastor Joe’s sermons in English and Spanish, scheduling church service videos and DVD to be formatted, ensure that the needed AVL equipment is ready for Dream Team
    • Prepare ministry buckets for the Dream Team leaders that contain prison connection cards, sermon outlines, pens, flash drive or DVD that will be taken inside the prison
    • Compile Connection Cards. Enter them on a list to send to prayer ministry
    • Weekly provide accurate and timely attendance metrics of weekly services and small groups
    • Order small group materials
    • Order Bibles and gospel literature as needed for the various correctional facilities
    • Email required IOC (Inter-Office Communications) to prison chaplains with dates of upcoming services, approved volunteer and special volunteer lists, equipment lists that will be going into the units
    • Assist with answering and forwarding inmate letter correspondence
    • Maintain Correctional Ministry Webpage on church website
  • Dream Team
    • Coordinate Dream Team Schedule for weekly and biweekly services
    • Coordinate Dream Team Schedule for small group studies men and women, English and Spanish
    • Monitor Dream Team members 90-day volunteer expiration dates for T. Don Hutto and 2-year TDCJ training
    • Coordinate required volunteer training for Dream Team members who serve with Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Federal Prison, county jails and T. Don Hutto Detention Center
    • Connect and follow up with potential Dream Team members from Step 4, and email inquiries.
    • Coordinate carpooling, and reserve church vehicles for Dream Teams.
  • Special Events
    • Liaison with Radiant Women's ministry for the scheduled Radiant events in the prisons in English and Spanish.
    • Coordinate Dream Team members for Marriage Conferences, Day with Mom, Day with Dad, worship nights
    • Coordinate special holiday outreach every December at the Williamson County Jail in Georgetown

Education and Experience

  • Administrative experience with Outlook, iCal, jWord, Excel, PowerPoint, Coupa, Church Community Builder (CCB), database software programs, REACH Child Sponsorship software and procurement processes.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand, stoop, walk, climb a ladder and lift up to 50 pounds, to walk in any given environment found in the local office environment or on the mission field.
  • Must be able to work in a restricted access environment inside of a correctional facility.  Requires adherence to a dress code inside the facility and may be subject to a security pat down from a gender appropriate correctional officer.
  • Open office environment
  • Able to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements (heat, cold, wind, rain, etc.)
