JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

The Discipleship and Community Pastor is responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategic oversight, and operational excellence in fostering spiritual growth and relational connection within Cross Timbers Church. This role focuses on teaching, strengthening discipleship pathways, and cultivating community engagement while ensuring alignment with the church’s mission, vision, and values. The Discipleship and Community Pastor will oversee the creation and implementation of discipleship programming, and ministry-specific initiatives to build a thriving church community.

STAFF EXPECTATION:

As a condition of employment with Cross Timbers, it is essential (required) that employees and their families become active participants in the life and ministry of CT.  This includes regular attendance to services and finding a way to volunteer with a ministry not in the scope of this job. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Experienced leader, with excellent relational & communication skills (3-5 years)

·        Proven ability and experience leading & managing a staff and volunteers (3-5 years)

·        Public speaking ability; able to deliver a message during main services and/or events

·        High level of discernment and the ability to maintain confidentiality when needed

·        Proven leadership abilities in empowering, developing and helping others seek their potential

·        Willing and open to change, be flexible in a variety of situations

·        A team player giving and receiving input, willing to compromise & cooperate

·        Exhibit clear and effective verbal and non-verbal communications skills

·        Able to develop people and systems to optimize growth and effectiveness

·        Forward thinker who assumes responsibility and takes initiative

·        Must possess a genuine humility and work well in the context of a team

·        Clearance of a criminal background check

 

PASTORAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

A Cross Timbers Church pastor exhibits the heart to pray for, provide spiritual guidance, encourage, and lead people to Christ. The church qualifies and commissions a pastor as an individual who has been given the responsibility and or authority to administer in full or in part the following:

·        Biblical Teaching to the congregation or sub-part of the congregation (i.e., kids; students; college, financial freedom)

·        Lead or have oversight of a church ministry, program, or department

·        Perform religious/spiritual functions of the church

·        Baptisms

·        Weddings

·        Funerals/memorial services

·        Pastoral guidance

Full-time Cross Timbers Church pastors will become a part of the Pastor On-Call (POC) rotation cycle which helps the organization accomplish and meet the needs of various pastoral aspects in the life and ministry of the church.  Part-time Cross Timbers Church pastors will support as time allows but not be included in the POC rotation due to hour restrictions.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Oversee the execution & alignment of a discipleship system emphasizing personal spiritual development & evangelism.

·        Lead the re-implementation of a Growth Track.

·        Champion initiatives that encourage community-building and help people grow in relationships with one another.

·        Provide oversight, guidance, and development for Discipleship Pastor, Groups Pastor, Outreach, 1st Impressions Coordinator and administrative support.

·        Supervise direct reports setting clear goals and expectations and promoting a collaborative work environment.

·        Drive forward-thinking strategies to optimize ministry effectiveness and growth.

·        Be a part of the teaching team, teaching on Sundays 4-8 times a year, and helping create content for Sundays, social media, tools, and other places as needed.

·        Serve on the Directional Leadership Team and help guide the church and staff to the vison of CT.

·        Oversight and management of ministry budgets and resources effectively, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

·        Supervise and manage the Discipleship & Communications team including but not limited to regular 1:1 meetings with direct reports, providing opportunities for growth and development through clear and simple goals, responsibilities and expectations

·        Attend essential (required) staff meetings/functions as assigned by the manager and/or Leadership.

GENERAL WORK HOURS INFORMATION: 

·        Full-Time Positions - There is a 40-hour weekly work expectation for all full-time employees. 

o   Full-time staff work weeks are categorized by position as Monday – Friday or Sunday–Thursday. 

·        Part-Time Positions - Part-time employees have varying hours depending upon the role but should never exceed 29 hours per work week.  The actual number of hours per week is not guaranteed and may vary with the workload.  Failure to adhere to the 29-hour rule is a violation of the employment agreement. 

·        The established work week is Sunday through Saturday for all payroll purposes including tracking part-time hours.

·        Flexible part-time employees’ schedules and work locations are based upon the role and scope of responsibilities.

·        A finalized schedule will be established with the Manager but typically falls within the general hours noted below.

o   Monday-Friday role               8:30-5:00 Monday-Thursday                8:30-2:00 Friday

o   Sunday-Thursday role           9:00-5:00 Monday-Thursday                7:00-1:00 Sundays (varies by role)

·        A 1-hour lunch break is provided and required to be taken by an employee.  The actual time of the lunch break is determined with the manager’s input.

·        Employees must understand that ministry does not always fall within a normal schedule and working outside of that schedule can periodically include weekends, evenings and holidays for CT sponsored events that are essential (required).  For full-time roles, additional hours outside the normal scope may be accommodated with comp time and/or a temporary adjustment to the normal schedule where indicated.  This is handled by Manager discretion.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT – PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

·        Position requires bending, stooping, and stretching to complete various tasks, and occasional lifting of boxes weighing up to 25-50 pounds. Work is generally performed indoors but may involve limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
